Christmas Write the Room

The students were very engaged as the walked through the classroom looking for Christmas Vocabulary Words on the wall.  They copied the words onto their Recording Sheet.  All students were invited to participate.  A couple of students wanted to do this activity 4 times!

Christmas Concert

Here is a picture of some of the students lined up ready to go and perform on the stage for our Winter Wonderland concert.  They did a great job!!

Animal Inquiry

The students have been intrigued by animals lately, and so we are learning as much as we can about this topic.  It will continue into the new year as a Science/Inquiry Focus.  We learned about different foods that some animals eat.  Students were invited to dig through a pile of leaves for berries or seeds and place them on the corresponding animal.

Green Day

We enjoyed Green Day in our classroom this week.  We dressed in green and read a poem entitled "Green".

Airport Architects

A few of the students have been busy making paper airplanes recently.  Two students decided to make a runway and were taking off and landing from their airport in our cubby area.

PJ Day

We had a great time on PJ and Stuffie Day!  It's Mrs. Versteeg's favourite day of the year!

Journal Writing

Both JK and SK students are writing in their journals, with the guidance of the teacher.  They also have a free journal that they can access at any time throughout the day.

Light Table

The students were fascinated by some transparent cups that were intentionally placed on the light table one day.

Letter Printing

The students have been using different mediums to practice printing their letters.  These include whiteboards, journals, and paint bags.

Sensational Structures

The students have been busy building fantastic structures.  They have been referring to a book containing pictures of various buildings across the world.  The tissue paper in some of the pictures represents water. The students have been encouraged to label their pictures as well, to bring another literacy component to their learning.

What starts with P?

After we learn each letter, the students brainstorm words that begin with the given letter.  The Educator scribes the word and the students illustrate the picture.

A Regular Day....

Here are some photographs of students enjoying different activities in our classroom on a "regular day".

These students were matching pictures of different transportation vehicles.

The children in this picture were playing the "name game" on the whiteboards.

This student was practising printing his numbers.

Amazing Artists

The students have been doing an incredible job with Mrs Hellinga during Visual Arts class.  Here are a few pictures of them exploring paint.

Blue Day!

We celebrated Blue Day by reading a Blue poem and stamping, writing, and chanting the word BLUE!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and explored the letters of the alphabet by participating in different activities.

We put out some cookie sheets, a coconut tree, and magentic letters.  Students were invited to create their own Chicka Chicka trees!

Students were very engaged in adding foam letters to a coconut tree template.  Some of the children specifically looked for the letters in the name while others decorated with any letters they could find!

Students in our class love to play Alphabet Bingo.  The Educators have released some responsibility and let the students be the callers!
