Building Mania!

Look at the structure below that a few of our students built!  They took such care in adding so much detail.

Dress Up Centre

Samantha, our ECE student, brought in some costumes for the students to play with.  Stay tuned for more pictures!!

Let's Move!

The student have been having a "ball" in gym working with different types of balls.  Check out the smiles!

Tinfoil Art

Students were provided with tinfoil and Sharpie Markers and invited to make a picture.  The results were incredible!  Next time, we are going to use larger pieces of foil and can't wait to see what the students create.

Road Work

Many students have been busy constructing roads out of paper.  Check out the traffic jam in the picture below!

Splatter Art

The students were invited to paint large pieces of mural paper outside.  They made many discoveries during this activity, including the observation that if you got too close it made a much bigger mess and created puddles.  The results of their collaboration were amazing, and they had a ball in the process!

After our mural paper had dried, we cut it into pieces and used it as a background to create more works of art.

Measurement Mania

We have been studying measurement in our classroom.  We began by having a discussion about what measurement means and why we use it.  The students were challenged to measure objects in the classroom
.

One of the expectations is measuring using non-standard measurement tools.  Students measured various objects (e.g. shoe, carpet, straw, backpack) using paper "meatballs".

We measured how tall each student in our class was and made flowers displaying our different heights.

We then decided to measure objects using a form of standard measurement, a ruler.

Niagara Falls Art Gallery

We had a visit from Niagara Falls Art Gallery.  The students participated in a painting workshop.  The end result will be a present for Father's Day.

A Visit from Mrs. Hellinga

Mrs. Hellinga asked if she could bring some materials into the classroom one day for our Art Centre.  She brought in some wire, wood planks, and beads and guided the students as they were making their own creations.

Creative Manipulation of Materials

A few girls decided to build a house out of our "Block People" and brought some of our house centre furniture into their house to make it "more comfortable".  It's great to see their creative juices flowing!

Yoga Visit

A student in our class donated a yoga session for his birthday.  What a lovely gesture!  The kids had a great time with Claire and left the gym feeling great!

We put some pictures of yoga poses into duotangs and the students have continued to enjoy trying them out in the classroom.

Popcorn Awards

Congratulations to two friends who received their Popcorn Awards for identifying all 30 of our Kindergarten Popcorn Words!  Way to go!  We have a few students who are very close to getting their reward - keep working on it!

Can you find the pattern?

Two of our classmates made a pattern using our "Block People".  Can you figure out what it is?
