What starts with P?

After we learn each letter, the students brainstorm words that begin with the given letter.  The Educator scribes the word and the students illustrate the picture.

A Regular Day....

Here are some photographs of students enjoying different activities in our classroom on a "regular day".

These students were matching pictures of different transportation vehicles.

The children in this picture were playing the "name game" on the whiteboards.

This student was practising printing his numbers.

Amazing Artists

The students have been doing an incredible job with Mrs Hellinga during Visual Arts class.  Here are a few pictures of them exploring paint.

Blue Day!

We celebrated Blue Day by reading a Blue poem and stamping, writing, and chanting the word BLUE!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and explored the letters of the alphabet by participating in different activities.

We put out some cookie sheets, a coconut tree, and magentic letters.  Students were invited to create their own Chicka Chicka trees!

Students were very engaged in adding foam letters to a coconut tree template.  Some of the children specifically looked for the letters in the name while others decorated with any letters they could find!

Students in our class love to play Alphabet Bingo.  The Educators have released some responsibility and let the students be the callers!

Remembrance Day

To acknowledge Remembrance Day, we talked about creating peace in our classroom and in our world.  We read a poem called "Peace and Friendship" and contributed to a class "Field of Peace".

Shape Unit Continued....

We are continuing our geometry unit.  We explored the properties of 2D shapes and 3D solids.  We talked about edges, vertices, and faces - ask your children about it!  On certain days, students were asked to bring in an object from home that looked like a particular solid.

Transportation Unit

Miss Heather, an ECE student who is doing a placement in our classroom, noticed the children had an interest in transportation.  She has planned some activities to engage their learning, while addressing their interests at the same time.

In the following pictures, the students were making a car.

Miss Heather made a boat, complete with steering wheel and life jackets for the students to engage in Dramatic Play.

Some more activities...............

Beautiful Baking!

As a conclusion to our Pumpkin unit, the students baked pumpkin muffins with Miss Mammarella! They were yummy!  They also got to bring one home to share..................I'm not sure if you had a chance to get a bite before it was gobbled up!

Niagara Falls Art Gallery

We had Miss Michelle, an artist from the Niagara Falls Art Gallery, come to our class and present a workshop on Self-Portraits.  The students worked very hard and kept on task for over an hour!  Wow - fantastic job!
