Marvellous Math

We are continuing to build upon our number sense, using various play-based activities.

The students enjoyed the game "Shake and Spill".  They had 5 2-coloured counters in a cup.  The students had to shake the cup and spill the counters onto the table.  They coloured in a record sheet where they indicated the different combinations of 5 that they had made.  We discussed similarities and differences.

In this Memory Game, students had to match 2 different arrangements of dots from 2-6.  Some students excelled at this activity, while others were practicing subitizing the numbers (recognizing the arrangement of dots before counting).

Camping Write the Room

The students always enjoy "Writing the Room" where they look for hidden pictures/words and copy them onto a recording sheet.

Leapin' Letters!

This student created the names of her family out of letter cubes.......fantastic!

Rainbow Day

We had almost 100% participation in our Rainbow Day last week.  Our class colour was red.

Marvellous Math

During our Number Sense and Numeration Unit, the students have been busy playing dice games. We have been trying to subitize the number of dots on the dice - that is, recognize the number of dots automatically without having to count.

In this game, the SK students rolled two dice, added up the dots, and placed a counter over the corresponding number.

We added some other props to our campsite.

The students have been busy roasting marshmallows and playing in the tent.

Creative Camping!

We asked the students what they wanted to turn our Dramatic Play Area into and the final result was a campsite!  We made a list of what we would need for our campsite and began our adventure.......

The students decided we needed to paint some trees for the background.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  We hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  It's so nice to see everyone back - we missed you!
