Wonderful Writing

The students have been doing a wonderful job building upon their writing skills.  They completed a Snow Globe activity, where they had to complete the sentence starter "If I lived in a snow globe, I would......". Most SK students (and some JK) were able to sound out their own responses, whereas most JK students copied the teacher's scribing of their responses.

The students have also been enjoying writing in their Journal.  They have 2 journals in the classroom: one that they are free to use anytime and another that is worked on with a teacher.  Here are some exhibits from their journals.  The teacher documents their learning on the bottom of the page, so you can see how independently the students are writing their own sentences!  Fantastic work!

We read the story "The Mitten" by Jan Brett.  Students were asked to imagine they had a mitten that could stretch as much as the one in the story.  They were given the opportunity to complete the sentence starter "My mitten is so big a _____ could fit in it."  Some students chose one of the characters in the story, but others used their imagination and chose something completely different!
