Graphing

We have been working on sorting different materials over the last few weeks.  Today, I introduced (or re-introduced for our SK friends) the concept of graphing.  I showed them a paper bag which included purple and yellow crayons.  I asked the students how many of each crayon was inside, and they surprised me by guessing numbers.  One intuitive students said that we don't know until we empty the bag, which we did.  We then built a graph and discussed the results and information we gained from making a graph.  We then made a graph out of 3 different coloured connecting cubes, and interpreted the data.

We made a class graph of the favourite colour in our class.  Students chose their favourite coloured square and placed it on our graph.  Our data showed that pink was the favourite colour in our class!

Look how engaged the students were in this activity!

The graphing mat was left out and students were invited to create their own graphs.

I will be inviting the students to come and make their own graph in the coming days.
